A Seed is Planted

PASIV began as a simple idea in the young mind of Jim O'Reilly. As a boy, Jim and some of his friends decided to go down to the creek to play "cattails," a violent children's game in which non-consenting cattails are used as swords.

“We had learned that plants were alive, like us, a few weeks earlier,” Jim recalls. “The idea of killing such majestic creatures for their carcasses to be used as toys shocked and horrified me to my very core. That's how it all began.”

Throughout his teens Jim's perspective on the matter broadened into a worldwide view. Finally, in 1994, utterly disgusted with the atrocious living (and dying) conditions of plants all around the world, Jim created PASIV.

Germination

PASIV gained nationwide attention with “Kill Us With Your Crops or Leave Us Be,” a non-violent protest in Montezuma, Kansas, in 1998. Jim O'Reilly, along with his sister Jane, refused to leave a local farm owned by Earl Higgins during a harvest. Eventually Earl conceded and the crops were spared their lives. In what the media called a “bizarre, yet admiral spectacle,” PASIV became popular all over the United States and the letters started flowing in.

“It was truly amazing to see such an outpouring of support for our cause,” Kim says, fighting back tears. “We barely could keep up with reading them; I wish I could've written every one of them back.”

Earl Higgins actually became a member of PASIV in November of 1999, converting his farm of slaughter into a cattle ranch.

Future Growth

Today PASIV has over 5,000 members throughout the globe. We need your help in spreading with word! Please sign up or tell a friend today! With your help we can show the world the true horror that is agriculture.
